Soft Tissue Occupational Therapy
Soft Tissue Rehabilitation in Occupational Therapy is a specialty area that has been developed primarily in Australia. The soft tissue structures of the body include muscles, tendons, fascia and ligaments.
Damage to these structures may be as a result of a traumatic incident/accident and for these injuries we are ACC registered. Or the pain may be due to more gradual processes such as prolonged stress, poor posture and accumulation of repetitive movements and over use of certain structures in daily work or leisure activities. Your first session will be a comprehensive assessment to ascertain the exact nature of your problem.
Amy uses hands-on neuromuscular techniques to repair and enhance the function of the body’s neuro-musculoskeletal system. This may include trigger point therapy, deep tissue and myofascial release to relieve muscle tightness, break up fibrous adhesions, and re-train the body to use its soft tissue structures correctly.
Personalised stretching and strengthening programs are incorporated in treatment to help restore optimal movement patterns.
Assessment of lifestyle factors such as stress, nutrition and sleep, ergonomics in the workplace and home are considered to identify and manage aggravating factors.
Our ethos is not only to eradicate the symptoms but to identify and treat the underlying causes of dysfunction to prevent recurrence.
