Stretching and Strengthening
For optimal pain free performance we need our muscles to be long and strong but balanced. Muscles rarely work in isolation but in synergy. If a muscle is too weak it cannot undertake its required portion of the work and therefore recruits and overworks the muscles that act as assistants in the movement. A tight muscle will dominate the action and disrupt the regular movement. Both of these issues can lean to further pain and injury.
Dependent upon the diagnosis, individualised stretching and strengthening programs need to be devised to facilitate full and lasting recovery. These may be done with the therapist or as a home program. We have a good working relationship with the Kumeu Gym to aid in the implementation of more complex programs.
